Visiting Nice on the French Riviera

Nice in France is a nice place to visit if you’ll excuse the pun. In fact it is a fantastic place to visit and is very popular with tourists and locals alike. It is a very glamorous and chic city and you may even find yourselves rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous. The beaches are, of course, very popular here but nice has so much more to offer holidaymakers than just sitting on the beach.

The place has many luxury hotels so it is not really a place for those on a tight budget but if you can afford to splash out a bit then there are many classy establishments to choose from. The Hotel Negresco is one such place which is a five star hotel with ninety-six rooms, each one decorated individually. The hotel has all the mod-cons, of course, such as Wi-Fi and LCD televisions in each of the rooms.

The shopping is also great in Nice and, again, if you can afford to splash out then there are over six hundred shops to look around. In the old town is the largest open-air shopping arcade in the French Riviera. You are certainly spoilt for choice, whether looking for souvenirs or designer clothes. It is not a bad idea to hire a car for getting around the city if you don’t have your own with you.

Nice is also a very cultural city with many museums and art galleries to visit. There are in fact more than twenty to look around. One museum that is a must to look around is the Matisse Museum, dedicated to Matisse, the French artist who lived in the city for more than thirty years until he died in 1954. Many of his original paintings and sculptures are on display here.
