French camping holidays booming thanks to economic climate

Many people are looking for cheaper options for their annual holiday because of the economic downturn. This has affected a lot of the big tour operators but there is a market that is actually benefitting from this and that is camping holidays in Europe, and especially France.

There are a host of affordable camp-sites in France that offer facilities that are anything from basic to practically luxurious. One area that is extremely popular is the French Alps. The scenery here is absolutely stunning with snow-capped mountains and beautiful lakes to feast your eyes on. The world’s highest cable car is here at Chamonix.

France’s largest national park, the Parc National des Ecrins can be found in the Alps region. The park is an area of outstanding natural beauty and there are plenty of things to do here. For the more adventurous there is, of course climbing and hill-walking or you can jet-ski on the glacial Lac de Bourget. A good camp-site in this region is Camping la Serraz with the beautiful Annecy Lake just ten minutes’ walk away.

Jura in the East of France is another very popular destination for campers. It is about six hours drive from Calais and four hours from Paris. The Jura Mountains are great for winter sports and in summer are great for rambling and climbing. The Swiss border is nearby and Bern is only two hours’ drive. There is actually a Swiss flavor to the area and this can be seen in the architecture and the cuisine.

A well-known beauty spot in this area are the Cascades du Herrison waterfalls. The falls run for two miles through some of the most beautiful countryside you will ever see. They drop for six hundred metres into the Val-Dessous. This is an idyllic spot to choose if you are camping in France.
