When most people think about France for holidays they think of Paris and the Eiffel Tower, but the truth is that there is much more to the country than just the city of lights if you are willing to explore or want to see the true rustic lifestyle of French people. The pace of life in France outside of Paris is ironically much slower than most people expect, making it the perfect place to get away to for a holiday break if you simply want to relax and enjoy the rolling hills of the countryside or the thrill of the slopes.

There are three things in particular that France is known for, with each forming one of the most popular options when it comes to holidays to France; the southern lavender countryside, it’s amazing ski slopes and scenic beauty, and of course the rush that the City of Lights provides and the Love it infuses upon all those who choose to visit it. As you might guess, each of these three options combine to make for lovely holidays regardless of which direction you choose to head when planning your holiday. If you think far enough ahead and plan on driving into France or taking the train you may even be able to experience all three over one holiday.

If you are looking for a slower pace of life, the southern quarters of France are pleasant and soothing at the same time. Not only will you likely find yourself relaxed as the scent of lavender fields fills your nose at every turn, but the towns in the south of France are more like the quaint villages that you imagine out of the story books than the cities in the North.

The next option you have is to travel towards the ski slopes because believe it or not a scattered few do stay open into the spring season with enough snow on the ground to make skiing feasible although any spills may hurt a bit more.

Finally, the city of Paris will always have something to offer any energetic holiday planner from the nightclubs and great fashion scene to the many famous historical attractions such as Disneyland Paris, the Eiffel Tower, and the Champs Elysees all of which are sites to see on their own let alone within just a short span of time.

VFB Holidays have something different for those looking for transquility in the ancient French provence of Auverne.

You can book the independent west wing of a handsome château in an area famous for its volcanic mountains? Dating from 1700 the château is located in Augerolles, near the valley of Le Mont-Dore whose extinct volcanoes are the source of the Dordogne and Allier rivers.

Exposed stonework, beams and period furnishings ensure lots of character and the elevated position provides unbeatable panoramic views of rolling fields and craggy mountains. Nearby is a pristine lake and the spa town of Vichy.

A week’s rental from 4 October costs from £480 (up to eight sharing plus baby), including a return channel crossing for one car. Call VFB Holidays on 01452 716840 or visit www.vfbholidays.co.uk and search for PRO.63.
