Modern France has boarders that are just about the same as the boarders of the ancient Gaul that was mostly occupied by the Celtic Gauls. Rome had previously conquered the entire Gaul area which was mainly by Julius Caesar during the first century BC. This led to the Gauls to ultimately adopt the roman speech that included languages like Latin from which the first French language had developed and also the Roman culture. The religion of Christies was followed right from the beginning of the second and the third century AD and it gradually becomes very much established by the 4th and the 5th centuries AD. During this period, St. Jerome had written that Gaul was the only place that was free from unorthodoxy.
During the fourth century AD, the eastern frontier of Gaul along the Rhine had been overrun by the Germanic people and tribes or mainly the Franks from whom the earlier name of Francie had been derived. France being the name today has been actually derived from the name of feudal domain of the Capetian Kings of Paris and France. Among the Germanic Conquerors the Franks were actually the first conquerors of Europe after the fall of the Great Roman Empire which they later converted to the Catholic Christianity but not the Arianism religion. Therefore the country of France gained the title of “Eldest daughter of the Church” and the people of France would adopt this just as a good reason for calling them as the most Christian Kingdom of France.
However, the existence to be a separate body began wit the treaty of Verdun which has included the division of the Carolingian Empire of Charlemagne from the east of Francia, western Francia and from middle Francia. The western Francia has clearly shown off the area that is occupied by Modern France and they were also the ancestors of the France that is today.
There was the Carolingian Dynasty which had ruled over France until the year 987 which was when Count of Paris and Hugh Capet the Duke of France were crowned as the king of France. The House of Valois, the Direct Capetians, the House of Bourbon and the descendants of the king had progressively unified the country of France through a chain of dynastic inheritance and wars. During the 17th century the monarchy had reached its height and also the time in power of King Louis XIV of France. During this time the country had become the largest populated country in the entire Europe and they had great influence over the European politics, culture and also their economy. The language of French had then started and it remained for a long time as the most common language of international relations used for most international affairs. Most of the enlightenment and explanation took place in French intellectual circles and most of the major scientific breakthrough had been achieved by the French scientists of the 18th century. Apart from this, France also obtained a number of overseas possessions that include Africa, America and Asia.
