The French language as it exists today has come into existence after a long and complex evolution. France was invaded by several rulers who came from different parts of the world. They brought with them their own culture and languages that influenced the French language. French is not a pure language but it has been derived and composed from many other languages. France has been invaded by as many as six different linguistic groups which included Celts, Romans, Franks, Arabs, Germanic tribe and Greeks. France got its mane from the Frank tribe. They entered in France and dominated the country. They adopted the Latin form that was spoken in the country at that time. They added to that language several of their own words and changed it from Latin so that it resembled their language. French is the most widely spoken language after English. It s official language of several countries and has enjoyed a cultural prestige. Several French words are derived and used in the English language. English and French resemble most closely and share several words and expressions. However there are a few French words that are exactly like the ones in English but they have a completely different meaning.

French is often regarded as a lady’s language because of its subtle pronunciation and soft sound. There are no harsh sounding words in French. This language will be described as flat, soft and smooth flowing if it was heard by a person who does not know the language. In this language it is difficult to predict the spelling of a certain word. The reason is that the pronunciation of the words is completely different from the way they are spelled. The final consonants in this language are generally silent therefore there is a feeling of the words being trailed without an end. However the words that begin with a vowel do not have silent consonants at the end. Today there are several old French words that are spelled differently but the pronunciation is the same. Therefore the language has evolved in time and become extremely popular. It is also one of the easiest languages to learn. French is taught in many countries as a second language. In Egypt English is a predominant language and every educated Egyptian strives to learn this language as it has great cultural prestige. French does not have any harsh sounding words hence when the language is spoken the words just seem to melt into each other.

The language has become even more popular and is extensively being taken up students all around the world. Since globalization has increased incredibly it has become a necessity to learn new languages so that communication is effective. French universities have collaborated with several universities around the world. They provide course ware and guide them for effective teaching of the language. Through these collaboration there are student exchange programs that provide opportunities for French learning students to visit the country and learn more about it.
