La Croix

La Croix can be referred to as a Roman Catholic, French, daily newspaper. Paris is its place of publication. La Croix is being distributed all through France, with circulation <100000. It’s neither plainly conservative nor liberal regarding main political issues. It, instead follows position of Church, even though it’s, in actual sense, more progressive. Note that La Croix, however, need not be perplexed with any of the religious newspapers. Its topics have always been of general interest: spirituality, religion, economy, world news, science, culture, and parenting. The origin of La Croix can be traced to the 19th century, i.e. the year 1880. Bayard Presse is its owner.

Le Figaro

Le Figaro can be referred to as one amongst the foremost morning daily newspapers of France. Editorial line of it is conservative and has been generally sup portative of RPR, i.e. Rally for the Republic political party, along with its successor, i.e. UPM-Union for a Popular Movement.

This Parisian paper had been founded in the year 1826 in the form of one of the satirical weeklies, taking motto and name from Le Mariage de Figaro, which was the play composed by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais. The motto was, “There cannot be praise in the true sense without being free of criticizing”. Le Figaro was being published in an irregular manner till the year 1854. It was the time when taking over through Hippolyte de Villemessant had come in to effect.

By the year 1866, Le Figaro had obtained the status of being the greatest circulation in France. Its 1st daily edition, which got released on 16th of November, 1866 had 56000 copies sold. The early contributors of paper include Jules Claretie, Alphonse Karr, Emile Zola, and Albert Wolff.

France Soir

France Soir, better known as France Evening, can be referred to as a daily newspaper of France which went on to prosper between 50s and 60s. The declination, however, started later under numerous owners. The re-launching took place in the form of one of the populist tabloids in the year 2006.

The origin of France Soir can be traced to the year 1944, when Pierre Lazareff had come forward for finding it as underground paper. It was named ‘Defense de la France’ then. The present name was acquired after the Second World War. On 7th of June, 2006, this paper reappeared after the absence of around 1 ½ months, under the new-fangled policy regarding 1st truly tabloid paper of France, in vein of British Newspapers ‘The Sun’. Its headlines were related to Guy Roux, Mariah Carey, and road safety.

20 minutes

20 minutes is a daily, free newspaper which is being distributed to the French commuters. Its publication rests with Ouest France Group and Schibsted. 20 minutos, its Spanish version, has been distributed by Zeta and Schibsted in Spain. Tamedia is vested with the responsibility of publishing its German-language and French-language edition in Switzerland. It was launched on 15th of March, 2002 in Paris. It then spread out to other French areas.
