If you are interested in sightseeing rather than skiing then there are also plenty of options to do in this part of France. On the shores of Lake Geneva visitors will find spa towns which provide an opportunity for some great relaxation. Annecy is a town that provides a great base for those who wish to explore the Alps, including the most famous of them all, Mont Blanc.

Annecy has been nicknamed as the Venice of Savoie and it is a wonderful town to explore in both the summer and winter. Its name comes from the Italian town because it has a network of canals running through it. There is an old castle in the town which is located high above it and in this you will find a museum detailing the history and culture of the region.

LakeAnnecyis located in the centre of the town and this is the point where all the canals run to. There are some features to enjoy around the lake although these tend to be very busy in the summer.

Lake Geneva is located in the town and it forms the border between Switzerland and France. This can be explored on foot and there is also the option to rent a bike to explore its shores. There are also numerous water sports that take place on it such as sailing, and it is also possible to hire someone to take you on a relaxing boat trip. The water in the lake is beautifully clear and it is even being sold as a bottled mineral water.

An Advertising Feature

As summer is fast approaching and you get the urge to find some sun many of us across the country will be thinking of booking a cheap flight somewhere soon.

However summer is the most popular time to travel with many families taking advantage of the school holidays. So when is the best time to get a low cost flight without missing out on some summer fun? Here is a quick guide on when to book flights now.

Whether you want to jet off for a family holiday in France or bag a quick city weekend break with friends, there are hundreds of websites offering cheap flights to holidaymakers. Cheap flights can start from as little as £1 (minus taxes) with some airlines, so they don’t have to cost a fortune either.

Going online at a time when no one else does, such as the middle of the night can help you find a better deal on a low cost flight. Research has found that that back-to-work blues feeling people get on Mondays and Tuesdays results in the busiest days for bookings.

Actual booking time which reaches a climax between 7pm and 10pm on weekday evenings, when people have more time to devote to finding the best deals. You can beat the rush by booking before hand or after.

Using a low cost flight search you can find a low cost flight in seconds, it’s easy and simple to do.

Book in advance and avoid school holiday times. Obviously we all want to catch a bit of sun when it’s hot, but July and August are the peak holiday season where prices rocket. So if you don’t have kids or are thinking of travelling without them, try not to go during the peak school holiday season. Travel for a late summer break in September or early in May, that way you get to enjoy your holiday in the sun and beat the mad rush.

Cheap flights are great for last minute bookings too. If you find yourself desperate to catch a last minute flight, many low cost airlines offer great last minute deals.

You should also book when you least feel like it. January and September are the busiest times of the year for booking as people suffer post Christmas and summer blues.

Flying midweek can also have massive benefits. Cheap flights are always emptier during the week and if you do want to travel at the weekend how about a Saturday to Monday flight instead of the popular Friday to Sunday slot.

Air France has officially denied the accusation, stating on their website that ‘Air France has no intention of making heavier passengers pay for a second seat’. In fact, since 2005, Air France has had a polcy of offering heavier passengers the possibility of purchasing a second seat at a 25% discount, to enhance their own comfort and safety.

The only recent change to Air France’s policy on overweight passengers is to refund passengers the cost of the second seat, if the cabin is not fully booked.

While everyone knows that Paris is lovely in springtime, the truth is that Paris is lovely all the year long. While spring is pleasant due to the smaller crowds, blooming flowers, and temperate weather, so is autumn. The hottest months, July and August, are the least comfortable; winters are mostly chilly, but Paris is relatively dry and rarely sees snow. May receives the least rainfall.

Throughout the rest of France, climate and temperatures vary by region and altitude. In Lyon, for example, with an elevation of 200 metres, average July temperatures are 21 degrees. Bordeaux, at an elevation of 47 metres, averages 19 degrees in July. The coastal areas are the most moderate, due to the sea breezes. The rainiest area is in Brittany, which receives a lot of rain from October to December.

In the south, along the Mediterranean coast and encompassing the cities of Nice, Marseille, and Cannes, rain falls more in the spring and autumn than it does in the rest of the year. In the summer, it is generally hot and dry. Strong winds, each with their own characteristics, are particular to many areas. In Provence, the strong winds are known as Le Mistral, which blow in from the north and bring with them dry and often clear weather. The wind can be felt throughout the Rhone Valley and along the Cote d’Azur; it also affects parts of Italy. Other strong winds in the area include the Sirocco, which is a violent wind that comes from the Sahara and brings dusty, dry weather with it.

If you have always wanted to live in a French château near Lyon, in a seaside flat in Nice or in Paris’s Latin Quarter, you can: book accommodation for these and other unique French stays the next time you go on holiday.

To find apartments, villas, chateaux, and condominiums in France, look online or speak with a travel agent. Many specialise in unique holiday stays, and they will be able to advise you. Much of the accommodation is great for families as they offer more room and a good kitchen for cooking meals. And if you have been thinking about moving to France, staying in an apartment may well give you a sense of what living in France would be like.

Most people who visit France, however, choose to stay in a hotel. The French government rates hotels according to one to four stars. Hotels with one star are quite basic. Very often rooms will not include an en-suite toilet; toilets and showers will be located down the hall and shared with other guests. It’s a good idea to enquire when you make the booking, as some hotels offer both rooms with a private bath, and those without private bathroom facilities. Two-star hotels are budget hotels that have more amenities than the one-star hotels and three-star hotels are considered first-class hotels. Hotels with four stars are at the top of the list and are regarded as luxurious.

There are a number of hotel chains that offer comfortable accommodation at good value. Mercure and Formule 1 are two that have good reputations for providing basic, moderately priced accommodation.
